U.S. President Joe Biden was briefed on Chinese cyber attacks on Department of Treasury networks and is working to mitigate risks, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said on Friday. Chinese state-sponsored hackers breached the Treasury Department’s computer security guardrails this month and stole documents in what Treasury called a “major incident,” according to a letter to lawmakers that Treasury officials provided to Reuters earlier this week.
Ukrainian air defences downed 60 out of 93 drones launched by Russia in an overnight attack, the air force said on Friday. It also said that 26 drones were “lost”, in reference to Ukraine’s use of electronic warfare to redirect Russian drones. One Russian drone was still in the air, the air force added.
Hamas said a new round of indirect talks on a Gaza ceasefire resumed in Qatar’s Doha on Friday, stressing the group’s seriousness in seeking to reach a deal as soon as possible, senior Hamas official Basem Naim said. The Slovak ruling coalition and government will discuss retaliatory measures against Ukraine after it stopped transit of Russian gas to Slovakia, Slovak Prime Minster Robert Fico said on Thursday.
