The deputy chair and spokesperson of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) dismissed the opposition’s call for an early election. Addressing the party’s congress in the southern province of Adana on Sunday, Ömer Çelik said the opposition would undoubtedly be defeated in the first instance of an election but Türkiye had no agenda of an early election. The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) is the proponent of early election calls. The party’s leader Özgür Özel told reporters last Friday they demanded an immediate election, four years before the scheduled presidential vote. Özel has claimed that the government…
Bayern Munich host Paris Saint-Germain at Allianz Arena on Tuesday, with both sides under pressure to secure a vital Champions League victory. Bayern, sitting 17th in the group stage with six points from four matches, need a strong result, while the Parisians are even worse off in 25th, earning only four points in as many games. The Bavarians enter this clash in fine domestic form, riding a six-game winning streak. Under Vincent Kompany, the Bundesliga giants bounced back from a 4-1 loss to Barcelona in late October, and their 3-0 win over Augsburg on Friday cemented their six-point lead at…
Barcelona will seek to bounce back in the Champions League with a fourth victory of the group stage as they host French debutants Brest at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on Tuesday. The Catalan giants endured a late collapse in La Liga over the weekend, conceding twice in the dying minutes against Celta Vigo to settle for a 2-2 draw. That slip, coupled with a defeat to Real Sociedad in the prior match, has left Hansi Flick’s men clinging to a four-point lead at the top of La Liga with Atletico Madrid closing in. In Europe, however, La Blaugrana have shown…

The directorate said Erdoğan told Putin that they aimed to expand cooperation in many areas, primarily expanding bilateral trade volume. Erdoğan also affirmed that his country was working to end regional tensions and would remain steadfast in contributing to peace processes. The…
Talks on drafting a new constitution may hit a snag as the main opposition leader hinted that his party might join the efforts only when it wins the next general election. The ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) seeks consensus among parties and the public to replace the coup-era Constitution with a civilian one. Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Özgür Özel said on Sunday that a new constitution was indeed necessary, but they would “do it only after the current administration is changed.” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has repeatedly called for the new constitution, and Parliament Speaker…
The grim face of terrorism is forever etched into the minds of several families who lost members in a brutal massacre by the PKK on Nov. 24, 1989. The killing of 28 people, from infants to adults, in execution style is still fresh in the memory of the nation that has suffered from terrorism since the mid-1980s. The Ikiyaka village, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the Yüksekova district of the southeastern province of Hakkari, paid a hefty price for opposing the terrorist group. Descending on the village, terrorists rounded up members of families who refused to aid terrorists who…

There is also an ongoing investigation regarding Konak’s involvement in spreading PKK terrorist propaganda. The mayor was suspended in line with the 127th article of the Constitution and the 47th article of Municipal Law No. 5393. Tunceli Governor…
Members of the main opposition’s divided Republican People’s Party (CHP) are “closing ranks” following a call from the party’s ex-leader, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who on Friday stood trial for his “slanderous” allegations against the Turkish government. The CHP’s current chair, Özgür Özel, as well as Istanbul and Ankara Mayors Ekrem Imamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş, were among the prominent figures showing up for the hearing at the Ankara courthouse in solidarity with their former leader. Kılıçdaroğlu, who is facing a prison sentence of up to 11 years and eight months, as well as a political ban, announced in a video message on…
