The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, on Oct. 22-24, 2024. Azerbaijan applied for membership in BRICS on Aug. 4, and Türkiye applied at the beginning of September.
