Türkiye’s exports to the US rose 9.8% year-on-year to $12.3 billion in the first 11 months of the year, becoming the second largest export destination, according to Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data compiled by Anadolu. Türkiye remains an important center of attraction for US-based firms, as the efforts of maintaining close ties with the US in bilateral relations reflect positively on foreign trade. Türkiye’s potential to attract investments with its strong, large, and dynamic economy plays an important role, while trade delegations also contribute to the increase of exports and sales to the US. The industrial sector stood out as…
If you walk downhill through the narrow side avenues branching off Istanbul’s famous Istiklal Street, you will find yourself in Tophane, a neighborhood along the city’s iconic strait. Inside one of its old arcades is a quaint secondhand bookstore, where, every weekend, auctions take place for volumes both foreign and Turkish, along with an eclectic mix of other items – posters, CDs, vinyl records and more. Book auctions have been common practice for decades at Istanbul’s secondhand shops, known in Turkish as “sahafs.” But actual congregations like these have become harder to find in recent years since many establishments have…

The Arctic Ocean could experience its first “ice-free” day as early as 2027, according to a new study, signaling a profound shift in the planet’s climate. Even under the most optimistic scenarios, this “ominous milestone for the planet,” is inevitable within the next two decades, researchers caution in the study published in Nature Communications on Monday. “The first ice-free day in the Arctic won’t change things dramatically,” said co-author Alexandra Jahn, a climatologist at the University of Colorado Boulder. “But it will show that we’ve fundamentally altered one of the defining characteristics of the natural environment in the Arctic Ocean,…
Taiwan’s leader Lai Ching-te, who is on a three-nation Asia Pacific trip, convened a national security meeting via video conference on Wednesday following a deepening political crisis in South Korea. Lai directed his national security team to maintain constant contact with other “democratic partners” to closely monitor developments in the aftermath of the aborted attempt to impose martial law in South Korea. The leader also…
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has uncovered new insights into the Spiderweb protocluster, a massive “city of galaxies” forming 10 billion light years from Earth, European Space Agency (ESA) reported on Wednesday. By observing the protocluster as it appeared just 4 billion years after the Big Bang, astronomers identified previously hidden galaxies in this early-stage galaxy cluster by using the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. “We are observing the build-up of one of the largest structures in the universe, a city of galaxies in construction,” said Jose M. Perez-Martinez of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands, according…
China launched a new group of satellites into orbit on Thursday, marking the 550th flight of the Long March rocket series, according to state-run media. The satellites, part of the Spacesail Constellation project’s third batch, were sent into orbit at 12.41 p.m. local time (0441GMT) from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi province aboard a modified Long March-6 rocket, Xinhua reported. On Wednesday, a separate launch occurred at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern Sichuan province. A Kuaizhou-1A rocket deployed a remote-sensing satellite equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) into its planned orbit at 12.46 p.m. local…
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday accused the current U.S. administration of trying to destabilize Eurasia. Lavrov argued at the 31st Ministerial Council meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Malta’s capital of Valletta, that moves by Washington stemmed from the Biden administration’s movement of NATO infrastructure into the Asia-Pacific region. He said “military blocs” are being created in the region and NATO has stepped up its participation in military exercises in the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and the Korean Peninsula. “It is an obvious attempt to destabilize the entire Eurasian continent,”…
The Foreign Ministry of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Thursday expressed grave concerns over Southern Cyprus’ increasing militarization and facilitation of foreign forces through strategic partnerships with powerful allies like the U.S. American support for the administration in the southern part of the island, disguised as “strategic partnerships” and military collaborations with countries such as Israel and France, poses a significant risk to regional stability, the ministry warned. The TRNC has repeatedly warned that these actions could disrupt the delicate balance of the Eastern Mediterranean. According to recent media reports, Southern Cyprus is attempting to integrate Israel’s…
Tesla’s stocks surged the most among the world’s top 10 companies in November, as the global equity markets moved led by uncertainties rising from President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff promises and geopolitical risks. The American electric vehicle (EV) maker performed the best in the share markets as its stock surged 38.15% at the end of October and 38.91% since January to $345.16. Analysts cite Tesla owner billionaire Elon Musk’s close association with Trump throughout the presidential campaign and afterward. Additionally, Trump tapped Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new agency — the Department of Government Efficiency — which contributed…
